The 2026 HDD Rodeo

Dust off your Cowboy Hardhats. The 2026 HDD Rodeo Is Coming

December 2nd, 2026/ 7:00pm - December 4th, 2026/ 5:00pm

The HDD Rodeo is back in 2026! Originally launched in 1998 and back for its third year after a hiatus, The HDD Rodeo is a live competition event focused on Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).

How the HDD Rodeo Works

The HDD Rodeo is set up like a drag race but works more like time trial race. Crews, usually consisting of one operator and one locator, compete by boring a predefined bore plan with prescribed target depths, obstacles to be cleared and a 12” target ring at the end. Competitors are timed, with adjustments made to that time to penalize missed goals along the course.

The 2025 Rodeo event was hosted alongside the Utility Expo and saw competitors from all over the united states duke it out for bragging rights. In 2024, The Rodeos first year back, the competition was held outside of Kansas City, MO. Both events enjoyed good attendance and were well received by all involved.

Official Fluid Additive Sponsor: DrilRite

This year the event is set for 25 drill crews, a huge increase in size from previous years, 25 drilling lanes, a 240 foot bore length, and two days of non-stop competition.

The DrilRite Chem crew will be on site, as the official drilling fluid additives sponsor of the event and will be on-site recording new episodes of their One Foot At A Time Podcast.
